Literary Libations

Share it Please
Last Monday I wrote the post 'An English Major Walks Into A Bar...' and I thought it would be a great idea to make it a weekly segment. What better after a long Monday in the office than to curl up with a good book and a cocktail? Thus Literary Libations has been born (title idea compliments of my best friend Jamie) in which I will share my drink of the week and which book I happen to be reading. Hopefully it will give you some inspiration. I plan on posting these on Monday mornings so that you have the chance to swing by a grocery store for any missing ingredients before you head home for the day.

Today's Drink - Love In The Time Of Kahlua

Not all the drinks will come from Tequila Mockingbird by Tim Federle, but I'm sure several of the upcoming cocktails will be featuring this book. This drink is incredibly easy to make, even more simple than The Last Of The Mojitos from last week. You need 1 ounce of rum, 1/2 ounce of Kahlua (or other mocha flavored liqueur), light cream, ice, cinnamon, all spice (optional), and a glass that holds 8 to 10 ounces. Add a couple ice cubes to the glass. Pour in the rum and Kahlua. Fill the rest of the way with light cream. Top with with cinnamon and all spice. Enjoy your drink!

I personally prefer the alcohol to be mixed in so I stirred the rum, Kahlua, and cream before sprinkling the spice on top. Additionally if you don't want a drink with as much bite, lose the rum and just add 1 to 2 ounces of Kahlua. This makes the drink much sweeter and less alcoholic.

Today's Book - Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix (5)

I mentioned in December that I was reading through the Harry Potter series again. It amazes me to realize just how much of the story I had forgotten. Of course I remember most of the really big plot points, but I don't always remember how they get there.  I just started book 5 today, so Harry has just fought off the dementors and been rescued by a scraggly band of aurors. If I could live in one fantasy world it would probably be Hogwarts. Everything about Hogwarts sounds amazing and I've always been fascinated by the use of magic in stories.

Part of me is really enjoying the trip back through memory lane. The first time read these books I was absolutely enthralled by the surrounding world and devoured each chapter as quickly as I could. I'm pretty sure I would walk to and from class with a book in front of my face, only occasionally glancing down to make sure I wasn't going to trip on anything. The other part of me is anxious to start some of the new books I have lined up. There just isn't anything quite like discovering a new world.

The man who never reads lives only once.”

  5. Yes! Do share what book you are reading. Unfortunately I am not a frequent reader to know how to pick up a goof book by myself !

    1. I'll share every Monday! Sometimes I'll be reading the same book two weeks in a row, though, depending on how long or how busy I am! I figure if that happens the first time round I can say why I picked up the book and the second time I can say what I think of it personally. In another week or so I should be through the rest of the HP series and on to something new!
